ANALYSIS: Few with an obvious chance on recent form, and the first two had the race between them virtually from the start.
RISK FREE, one of the best treated on BHB ratings, had won only on the all-weather previously but handled conditions well and had no problem with stepping up in trip by a furlong, though it was his early speed that proved the most potent weapon here.
Summer Shades, all the better for a recent all-weather pipe-opener, had shown last year that she has the tactical speed to win overthis course and distance, and she disputed the lead with the winner throughout, just losing out.
Plutocrat ran a fine race considering he lost considerable ground through a slow start. He stayed on well through the field in the straight to be nearest at the finish. This was his best effort on turf since he came over from Dubai and, as he was one of the worst-in on BHB figures, it suggests he may be on a winning mark at present.
Efidium could not defy an unfavourably high draw, though the way he stayed on to take fourth on the outside suggests he is still in form, while Forest Prize was another to stay on strongly after a slow start, although she has proved unreliable in the past and it would be unsafe to regard this as a definite sign of a return to form.
Smith N Allan Oils ran his best race of the year and was also slightly hampered close home, while the well-backed Tantric ran as well as could be expected in face of a stiff task at the weights.
The jockeys on Beauteous and Rileys Dream both reported that their saddles slipped.
