ANALYSIS: The same grade of race as the previous handicap, and much the same comments apply. The winning time was again above the Racing Post standard.
SENESCHAL'S three previous wins had all been over 7f, and there was a slight question mark about his effectiveness over this trip on this undulating track. However, he was held together well - connections reported afterwards that he needs to be kidded along and kept sweet - and he was always travelling comfortably. This was his first win on turf since October 2004, and he also has fair form on the all-weather.
Pelham Crescent travelled up with the pace throughout, and this was his best run of the season.
Although a course and distance winner, Wind Chime just possibly needs 1m2f - and maybe evena bit more - these days. He ran like it, too, but it was a great effort given that he was one of just a few returning for the first time this term and is now ten.
Another returner, Chapter, led 2f out but could not keep up the gallop.
Convince
had been beaten just over a length at Warwick last time, when today's jockey had put up 2lb overweight but the duo were beaten fair and square this time.
The prime worry for Trevian backers was his lack of a recent run, otherwise he looked to have place prospects at the very least. It was probably his lack of edge that cost him, and he'll presumably strip fitter next time. His rider reported that the gelding hung right from half way.
Casablanca Minx is pretty consistent but she might need dropping into claiming company again to have a better winning opportunity.
This looked a more suitable trip for Mouseen but his chance was spoilt by an extremely tardy start. His rider reported that the gelding reared as the stalls opened.
A Kirby, the rider of Going Skint, reported that the gelding became unbalanced.
R Havlin, the rider of Goose Chase, reported that the gelding hung badly left throughout.
